The Elves is said to be the first race of intelligent beings who walked the earth of this world. These wise people is said to have taught all other intelligent races to civilize.

Even though they have taught their wisdom to other mortal folk they always have remained beyond other mortals, in power and wisdom.

Their power and wisdom is keyed to their Estel which makes them beyond other mortals. Some humans believe that Estel is of evil. If Elves lower themselves lives of lesser mortals, their Estel fades away and so does their power which is bound to it.
This is why the elves always has been an always will be the immortal and mystical, mythic people of wisdom. Maybe even to the gods.

BRIEF INFO ON THE ELVEN KIN
Estel: The most important word for elves is "Estel". It is the essence of the elvish mind. Estel is a way of living, the elven way of living. Life among humans or worse dwarves will make the Estel fade and wither. A very famous quote from the elven myth "pahh" is then Loth Maidh says to his son Edledhron before he is leaving for the north is "Hebed cîn Estel"; which means "Keep your Estel". That shall always be a part of an elven character's role, or also count as bad roleplaying.
Night Vision: As they are born with closed eyes, elves see very well in the darkness of the night. They have well developed night vision sensitive to temperature ranging from 10 to 30 metres.
Superb Hearing: Elves have superb sense of hearing which gives them a +10 bonus to Perception Static Manuevers only involving hearing. This also makes them great musicians which can be heard in their many hymns which is of course sung in their tongue; Sindarin which is a language almost made to be sung.
Cold Resistance: Elves have a great amount of resistance to natural cold, and does not dress to keep warmth (in extreme coincidences it is seen, but is very rare). Clothing is just another part of the elves very vein lifestyle, and modesty.
Sleep: Elves does not sleep, but as their lives are almost endless the many memories cannot be kept in their minds, as it is not that greater than the one of human's. Instead of sleeping they spend 2 to 3 hours meditating every night. This meditation is used to throw away the memories not worth saving. Some have heard of elves who did not do their meditation, and the tales tell that these individuals became possessed by demonic powers, lost their Estel or just died.
Appearance: Elves may look like the humans, but there are some differences. First of all they are more slender and slighter and therefore also more agile. They have absolutely no body hair, so they never grow beards. Their ears are pointy, how pointy vary from elf to elf, and their cheek-bones are placed higher in the face than humans.
